To celebrate our launch into Whole Foods Market, we’ve teamed up with foodies from all across the country to create dishes inspired by the cities they live in. First up is our friends @foodheaven who’ve created a dreamy Daring Gyro inspired by the halal food trucks you can find at almost every corner in New York City.

Who’s been lucky enough to eat at a NYC halal food truck?! Influenced by Egyptian cooking and found in street corners everywhere, halal trucks offer mouthwatering, satisfying and affordable meal options especially when you’re on the go. Growing up, I loved buying the rice platters and pita sandwiches and my favorite part is always the secret white sauce 🤤
As a nod to their epic chicken pita sandwiches, we bring you this recipe made w/ @daringfoods plant-based Daring Original Breaded Pieces! They’re perfectly crispy, packed with flavor and you can add them to salads, bowls and sandwiches!
I’ve asked several halal vendors about the white sauce recipe and got nowhere LOL so here’s our try at recreating it. This one is made with a mayo and tahini base. SO creamy and rich! Recipe below 👇🏽
Preheat the oven to 400 F and spread Daring Original Breaded Pieces out on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, flipping once at halfway point.
Add 1 tbsp olive oil to a saucepan or skillet over medium heat. Add onions, red bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally,
For the sauce, whisk all the ingredients together in a small bowl. Use as much water as needed to get a smooth creamy texture.
Assemble the gyros. Start with lettuce and cucumbers. Then add Daring Original Breaded Pieces and the sautéed veggies. Finish off with the white sauce and parsley. Fold and eat!
